SCOTCAT credits

The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits are half the value of SCOTCAT credits.

Module description

This module provides a preparation for studies in medicine, providing mentoring in appropriate academic subjects as well as some opportunities to practise communicating with patients. Additionally it will include some preparation for the University clinical aptitude test (UCAT) and multiple mini-interviews. Students on the Gateway to Medicine programme must pass this module to be considered for entry into BSc (Hons) Medicine.

  • Describe the main steps of the Gibbs reflective cycle and write a reflective piece using this framework.
  • Describe the main professional expectations of a doctor
  • Confidently undertake assessments such as University Clinical Aptitude Test and Multiple Mini Interviews required for entry into medicine
  • Developed skills in independent learning and problem solving, and demonstrated active learning via small group tutorial sessions
