SCOTCAT credits

The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits are half the value of SCOTCAT credits.

The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) provides an indication of the complexity of award qualifications and associated learning and operates on an ascending numeric scale from Levels 1-12 with SCQF Level 10 equating to a Scottish undergraduate Honours degree.

Module description

This is an introductory course, which is designed to engage students with the key concepts, models, debates and problems in the study of policy and practice around the theme of responsible enterprise. Responsible enterprise is not always clear and throughout your study you will explore and critically engage with a range of perspectives around this theme. The module also provides you a chance to develop your academic skills, in particular developing a critical approach to the ideas you are presented with.

Intended learning outcomes

  • -To provide a comprehensive introduction to the key elements of organisations and contemporary issues with a focus on ‘responsible enterprise’
  • -To build a foundation of knowledge on the different theoretical approaches, frameworks and models to management and environmental analysis
  • -To articulate what responsible enterprise entails and what competencies are required to be a responsible manager;
  • - To understand the nature and complexity of contemporary pressures and trends (from a variety of sources) and how these might impact upon organisations, their management and stakeholders;
  • -To engage with the academic literature and news and other sources with a critical lens, and;
  • - To develop analytical skills to identify links between the functional areas in management, organization’s, management practices and the business environment.

Awards

Golden Dandelion Award for excellence in Education for Sustainable Development

This module uniquely addresses the social, environmental, and economic concerns by looking at corporate social responsibility and sustainability aspects related to organisations. It prepares students to be critical thinkers, collaborators, and strategic thinkers and reflect on how they can be part of the solutions for many sustainability related concerns and create a better world. This module has been awarded the Golden Dandelion Award in 2022.
