Module description

This module will allow students to engage at length and in depth with the thought of a single, formative, thinker. Particular attention will be given to the deep systematic structures of the corpus, and to the ways in which historical and cultural context informs the theological interests and constructions of the thinker.

  • understand the structure and development of Bonaventure’s theological methods
  • understand the various approaches and genres that Bonaventure employs in his systematic theology
  • understand the relationship of philosophy to theology in Bonaventure’s works
  • discuss how historical theologies can be understood to bear on contemporary issues
