Module description
This module will build upon the skills gained in the fourth-year module CN4001. Emphasis will be placed on translation into and out of Chinese and free composition. Students will also give oral presentations on academic topics in Chinese. A variety of modern and contemporary texts will be used to broaden further students' knowledge of the language.

Intended learning outcomes
- By the end of the module the student will be able to talk to a native speaker confidently at natural speed on a wide variety of topics, and speak fluently and with ease on formal occasions
- The student will recognize and use 3,200-3,600 characters and understand sophisticated academic texts successfully
- The student will be able to write sophisticated commentaries and more complex essays
- The student will be able to extract information from academic Chinese sources and communicate such information confidently with native-speakers in writing and speech
