International students who are applying for an undergraduate Medicine programme at St Andrews will need to satisfy the academic requirements for their country listed below to be considered.
Applicants will also need to satisfy the English language requirements.

Applicants who are overseas for fee purposes who have not had the opportunity to study the correct qualifications in order to meet minimum entry requirements may be eligible to apply for a place on the International Foundation for Medicine at St Andrews. Applicants who have studied any of the qualifications considered for direct entry, as listed below, will not be considered.

Applicants must have achieved (or be predicted to achieve) an overall score of 85% including:
- 8.5 in Chemistry
- 8.5 in one of Biology, Mathematics or Physics.
Biology and Mathematics must be offered. Where Mathematics is a required subject, then this must be the '5 period' option. For all required subjects, written examinations are required; oral examination is not acceptable.

Applicants must have achieved (or be predicted to achieve) the following grades:
- Standard entry grades: 38 points (HL 6,6,6 plus SL 6,6,6)
These grades must include HL in Chemistry and one of Biology, Mathematics or Physics. If not passed at HL, applicants must have SL in Biology, Mathematics and English.
Either Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation are accepted as meeting the Mathematics requirement. Standard Level Mathematics Studies is not acceptable. Mathematics at GCSE grade B or better might be considered in lieu of Standard Level.

Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Northern Territory, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia
Applicants from the above territories must have achieved (or be predicted to achieve) an ATAR score of 96 minimum including the successful completion of the Year 12 Certificate with prerequisites of Chemistry plus one other of Biology, Physics or Mathematics taken at Year 12.
Biology, Maths and English must be offered at Year 10 (grade of ‘High Achievement’) if not offered at Year 12. Please contact the medical admissions office if you have any enquiries.

Queensland
Applicants from Queensland must have achieved (or be predicted to achieve) an Overall Position of 3 or Lower including successful completion of the Queensland Certificate of Education with prerequisites of Chemistry plus one other of Biology, Physics or Mathematics taken at Year 12.
Biology, Maths and English must be offered at either Year 10 (grade B) if not offered at Year 12. Please contact the medical admissions office if you have any enquiries.

High School Diploma
- An applicant with an average of over 85% in grade 11 will be considered for interview.
- Conditions of offer would include a minimum of 85% overall in the High School Diploma based on the top six grade-12 subjects, to include 90% in Chemistry and 90% in two of Biology, Mathematics or Physics (only one Mathematics course will be considered for the subjects required at 90%).
- For the Ontario High School Diploma, the 85% overall will be based on the top six grade-12 subjects with a mix of 4U classes with no more than two 4M classes.
- Chemistry is required in both grade 11 and grade 12 with 85% minimum in grade 11 and a likely grade of 90% in grade 12.
- Biology, Mathematics and English must be offered to at least grade 11.

Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE)
Applicants must have achieved (or be predicted to achieve) an overall average of Grade 1 in at least three two-Unit courses, to include:
- Chemistry and one of Biology, Maths or Physics.
- Both Units must be offered in all three subjects.
If Biology, Maths and English are not offered in the CAPE, they must be offered in the CSEC (Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate) at a minimum of grade 2.
Applicants will also need to satisfy the English language requirements.
To be considered for interview, as well as meeting the above requirements in the CAPE, applicants are expected to offer a minimum of five CSEC subjects at grade 2, to be taken at one sitting. Those applying having already achieved their CAPE with appropriate subjects and grades may be considered with less than five CSEC subjects at grade 2.

Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE)
Applicants must have achieved (or be predicted to achieve) a minimum of Level 5 in three Category A subjects. This should include at least two Category A Elective subjects, including Chemistry and one of Mathematics, Biology or Physics.
- Mathematics is considered as an Elective when Core Mathematics and Extended Mathematics (M1 or M2) are taken together, and both should be at Level 5.
- If Biology is not taken in the HKDSE, it must be offered at the equivalent level to IGCSE. Performance in form 5 should be equivalent to A grade at IGCSE.
- Applicants will also need to satisfy the English language requirements.

Higher Secondary School Certificates awarded on completion of standard XII 90% overall with 90% in four out of five subjects to include Chemistry and two of Biology, Physics, Maths. If Maths and Biology are not offered at class 12, then Biology and Maths should be taken in class 10.

Irish Leaving Certificate
Applicants must exceed (or be predicted to exceed) 595 points, including H1 in Chemistry, English, Mathematics and Biology. Mathematics at Ordinary Level would be considered if Physics were offered at H1.
These points will be calculated using the six highest graded subjects and also include the 25 bonus points for HL Mathematics.
If appropriate subjects were not sat at the first sitting of the Leaving Certificate, applicants may be considered if the missing subjects are sat the following year.

Applicants must have achieved (or be predicted to achieve) AAA at the first sitting, including Chemistry and one other of Biology, Mathematics or Physics.

Applicants much have achieved (or be predicted to achieve) AA at Advanced Level, including Chemistry and one other of Biology, Mathematics or Physics plus AABB or above at Intermediate Level.
If Biology, Mathematics and English are not offered at Advanced Level, they must be offered at Intermediate Level (grade B) or GCSE (grade B or numerical grade 5).

If not offered in the Vitnemål, then Biology and Maths must be offered in the Vitnemål fra Grunnskolen, at a minimum of grade 5. General science will not be accepted in place of a single subject in Biology. Natural sciences will be accepted instead of Biology.
Applicants are normally expected to complete all their studies in the three years of their upper secondary school.

Singapore Integrated Programme Cambridge A-Levels (SIPCAL)
Applicants must have achieved (or be predicted to achieve) AAA at the first sitting at H2 level, including Chemistry and one other of Biology, Mathematics or Physics.
If Biology and Mathematics are not offered at H2 level, each must normally have been passed at GCSE (or equivalent in O-Level) grade B or better or B4 or better.
Only one of Mathematics or Further Mathematics will be considered for the three subjects required at H2 level.
Applicants will also need to satisfy the English language requirements.
To be considered for interview, applicants must have a strong academic record. The School of Medicine expects SIPCAL applicants to offer a minimum of five A grades at GCSE (or equivalent at O-Level) to be taken at one sitting and to be predicted to achieve AAA in the appropriate subjects at H2 level.
The School welcomes applications from students who have taken the Singapore Integrated Programme. The entry requirements for these applicants will be either the SIPCAL requirements above or the International Baccalaureate requirements (see International Baccalaureate requirements section).

If you are studying the US high school curriculum, you will need to meet the entry requirements below.
Requirements
- USA High School Diploma with college prep-level classes or honours classes in science subjects with a GPA of at least 3.5 on 4.0 scale (a minimum profile of A- or higher) and
- Minimum test scores of at least three AP exams at 5, to be taken in one sitting, to include Chemistry and one of Biology, Mathematics or Physics.
- Biology, Mathematics and English must be offered in grade 11 or grade 12 if not offered as an AP.
Guidance
- Applicants do not need to complete courses in all three AP subjects, as the AP exam can be sat without completing the relevant course.
- A decision to make an offer of a medical place will be based on all aspects of an application including attained grades for grade 11 and the grades you are predicted to obtain in grade 12 and in the APs, as well as your UCAT score, personal statement and interview.
