After receiving an offer
If you have received an offer to study on an International Foundation programme at the University of St Andrews, there are a few steps you need to take to secure your place at the University.
-
You should accept your offer of a place within two weeks of our email offer.
To accept your offer, please complete these two steps:
1. Accept your offer
To accept your offer, log into your applicant portal. To log in, you will need the username and password you created for your application.
2. Make your pre-payment
We require a pre-payment of £4,000 to confirm your acceptance of our offer. This amount will be deducted from your total tuition fee. Find out when and how to make your pre-payment.
If you have applied to a Medical Sciences (Pre-Med) programme, you should accept your offer as described in 'Accept your offer' above, but please do not make your pre-payment until your interview has been confirmed as successful.
-
Students on an International Foundation programme are guaranteed a place in University accommodation for their pre-degree programme and for the first year on the degree programme, which may be Year 2 for students on the Science (International Year One) programme.
When to apply for accommodation
48 hours after you have received and accepted your offer of a place to study at the University of St Andrews, you can apply for University accommodation. See key dates below:
Students starting a programme in September
- Applications open: 15 March.
- Deadline to apply: 01 August.
Students starting a programme in January
- Applications open: 1 September.
- Deadline to apply: end of November.
Please apply for your accommodation as soon as possible, regardless of whether your offer is conditional or unconditional.
Find out how to apply for accommodation.
If you applied to your foundation programme after the accommodation deadline, please email ifpapplications@st-andrews.ac.uk so that we can assist with your accommodation request.
-
If you have received a conditional offer you will need to provide evidence to show that you meet the conditions of your offer. This evidence might be one of the following:
- a Secure English Language Test (SELT)
- a final transcript from your high school
- a reference letter.
Please submit your evidence as soon as it becomes available by uploading it to your applicant portal. To log in, you will need the username and password you created for your application.
-
If you require a visa to study in the UK you can only begin your visa application once your offer changes from conditional to unconditional.
An offer becomes unconditional when:
- you have accepted your offer
- you have paid your pre-payment (or provided a financial guarantee letter from your sponsor)
- you have met all the conditions of your offer.
Find out more about applying for a visa to study in the UK.
-
When your offer status changes to unconditional, you will receive an ‘entrant’ email from the University:
- from April onwards for students starting in September
- from November onwards for students starting in January.
At this point, you are no longer an applicant, but an entrant student. The email we send you includes information on how to activate your University computer account and email account. You should begin using your St Andrews email account as soon as you can, so that you do not miss any communications from us.
Once your computer and email accounts are ready, you will have access to your student portal, known as ‘MySaint’, which is where you can access services and information relevant to you, including your personal details, course information, events, library and wellbeing updates and more.

The International Education Institute offers online Q&A sessions during the year to give you the opportunity to ask questions about the International Foundation programmes, studying in the UK and at the University of St Andrews in particular.
