EU students

If you are an EU student who normally lives in the EU, you are likely to have an 'Overseas' fee status and you may be eligible to apply for support and funding in your home country to help you cover the costs of university.

Tuition fees

As a student at the University of St Andrews, you will be expected to pay fees every year that you are in attendance. The amount you will have to pay depends on your fee status and the degree you are studying for.

You may be eligible for tuition fee support within your home country. You must either pay your tuition fees online in advance or upon matriculation in September. Other payment options, including an instalment plan, are described in detail on the how to pay your fees webpage

If you are studying in the Faculty of Arts, Divinity or Science, tuition fees for 2025-2026 will be £31,670. Each year we make changes to our fees so we can continue to invest in your student experience. Fees will be adjusted annually, with adjustments typically ranging between 3% and 5%, to reflect inflationary pressures to which we may be exposed.

If you are studying in the Faculty of Medicine, tuition fees for entrant students in 2025-2026 will be £37,730. The Scottish Government has introduced a mandatory national levy for overseas medical students for each year of study to cover the costs of NHS clinical teaching, which is reflected in the tuition fee. Each year we make changes to our fees so we can continue to invest in your student experience. Fees will be adjusted annually, with adjustments typically ranging between 3% and 5%, to reflect inflationary pressures to which we may be exposed, or to take into account a rise in the mandatory levy.

Student finance

You will incur a number of expenses and charges at university that are not covered by annual tuition fees, including the cost of accommodation and individual subsistence. You should contact the relevant authority in your home country to find out what financial support may be available to assist you with living costs.

As an international student, you will be required to demonstrate that you have sufficient funds available to complete your studies when you apply for your student visa.
