• Degrees awarded

  Three degrees are awarded by the Faculty of Arts:

  • The MA (Master of Arts) Honours is awarded to students who complete 480 credits over a period of 4 years.
  • The BA (International Honours) degree is awarded to students who complete 480 credits, including College of William & Mary credit equivalents, over a period of 4 years.
  • The MA (Master of Arts) General is awarded to students who complete 360 credits over a period of 3 years.

• Degree structure

  Master of Arts (MA)

  The Faculty offers a number of modular programmes which lead to a Master of Arts (MA) degree. The degree is comprised of credit-bearing modules, and you must earn between 360 and 480 credits depending on the degree you are studying for; 120 credits are usually earned in each full-time academic year.

  During the first two years of the degree, you will study core modules specific to the programme as well as other optional modules – in some cases, these can be from another Faculty. In the second year, you must study a minimum of 80 credits from our 2000-level modules.

  During the third and fourth years, you will study 120 credits from 3000 and 4000-level modules, and if you are studying a single Honours programme these will usually include a dissertation module. At least 90 credits taken in the third and fourth years must be at 4000 level.

  BA International Honours

  The Faculty of Arts also offers programmes leading to a Bachelor of Arts (BA) International Honours degree (also known as the St Andrews - William & Mary joint degree).
