Sustainable Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC) MSc Scholarship
A SAIC scholarship will enable you to study sustainable development while gaining exposure to the aquaculture sector, the innovation challenges, and how SAIC is driving solutions. You will have the opportunity to develop your dissertation or end of year project on a topic that is of relevance to the sector. Students pursuing practical topics will have the opportunity to gain insight from individuals who work in the sector and are part of SAIC’s 300+ consortium member organisations. At what stage of my course application can I apply for this scholarship?
You can apply for the scholarship after you have submitted your course application for a place at the University of St Andrews. You do not need to wait until you have received an offer of a place before applying for the scholarship.

You are eligible for a funded place if you are:
- a permanent resident of Scotland for at least three years prior to the start of the programme (i.e. living in Scotland for a purpose other than studying).
You are not eligible if you are:
- a Scottish applicant not permanently resident in Scotland for three years prior to the start of the programme
- an EU student
- an rUK (the rest of the UK) student
How to apply
The places are open for applicants domiciled in Scotland and you must meet the Scottish Funding Council residency requirements, outlined below. If you have an interest in working in a growing and dynamic sector, and you meet the residency requirement, please register your interest by contacting your course director.

SAIC student obligations:
- The student must meet the Scottish Funding Council’s definitions of eligibility, noting
the requirement that funded students must meet Scottish residency terms (EU students
and rUK students are no longer eligible). - Transfer of this scholarship to another course is not permitted.
- This scholarship is for academic year 2023/24. Funding cannot be extended and funded
places may not be deferred. - A cash alternative is not available.
- By accepting this Scholarship, the student agrees to undertake an MSc project
developed in partnership with a Sustainable Aquaculture Innovation Centre consortium
industry member company that is relevant to the Scottish sector. If there are any
queries about this, then project ideas/titles should be sent to SAIC’s Head of Skills and
Talent for review.
For an up-to-date list of consortium industry partners, please see our website. - If the student does not complete their project with a SAIC partner as detailed above,
they will be required to repay this funding. - The student will be required to produce a final report of their research and submit this to
SAIC within two weeks of submission of their final assessment
(SAICskills@sustainableaquaculture.com). - The student will be both entitled and encouraged to attend Masters’ training/networking
events organised by SAIC.

The outcome of your scholarship application will be decided and communicated by SAIC.
