Additional criteria
- Open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students (any fee status)
- You must be participating in a St Andrews Study Abroad programme or an overseas external placement programme in the next academic year, or travel in summer 2025.
- As part of the application process, you should provide a short personal statement of around 500 words outlining how the scholarship will support your study, work or summer placement. You should also provide a breakdown of your budget for your placement which should indicate how much financial support you may require from a scholarship. The budget should include projected expenditure for your time abroad and should include a breakdown of other income sources e.g. family contribution, student loans, other scholarships.
- Please give an estimated budget for your placement.
- Outline the financial circumstances in which you will undertake your placement.
- Describe how a scholarship would help you to undertake the placement.
Many of our partner universities provide estimates of inbound student expenses on their webpages, which may be useful to you in preparing your budget. If your host organisation is yet to confirm the exact location of your placement, please estimate costs based on your preferred location in the country.
Please list all main amounts, such as income and expenditure, in both the currency of the exchange destination and UK Sterling (without any currency conversion fees attached). The Bank of England publishes daily spot exchange rates on its website.
While we recognise that many students may wish to undertake holidays during their placement or engage in expensive pursuits, we are unable to cover these costs with the available scholarship funding. As such, please do not include these in your budget. However, we can include modest costs for activities you might ordinarily undertake at St Andrews, such as playing a musical instrument or participating in a student society, sports club or membership organisation.
Please let us know if you have ever been a resident of St Salvator's Hall. The panel will then consider your Saints Abroad Scholarship application and the award criteria set by our donors.
