Delyth Henderson
Disability Adviser
Delyth has recently joined Student Services as Disability Adviser
Initially training in Primary and EAL teaching, she came later to Special Educational Needs training after a career break which focused on investing in her children.
Being faced with pupils who were clearly dyslexic, at a time when dyslexia was relatively unknown and unsupported, engendered a determination to understand the impact of this – and other SpLDs- on learners. This led to completion, after many obstacles, of a M.Ed in SEND from Middlesex University with a focus on Dyslexia assessment and Psychology for Education. Delyth is a member of the Dyslexia Guild and British Psychological Society in her capacity as a Specialist Assessor.
Delyth held multiple roles within the Learning Support department of a FE/HE College in West Sussex for over 13 years, notably as a study skills support tutor and specialist assessor for exam reasonable adjustments.
Knowing the high prevalence of co-occurring low self-esteem alongside learning difficulties amongst young adults, she is passionate about transmitting her underpinning philosophy of “life is worth living” through an ontological approach to learning: focus on the being first, then the doing.
Delyth has lived in France for many years and enjoys any opportunity to speak French whenever she can!
