Ladislav Holy Travel and Research Fund - Call for Applications from Social Anthropology MRes Students

30 January 2025

Applications are invited from MRes students for a limited number of travel grants (maximum £300) to help support research work carried out in connection with MRes dissertation topics. The aim of the Ladislav Holy Memorial Trust is to make awards to assist students to

  1. travel to their fieldwork or archival/library research area;
  2. conduct research using digital online resources that may involve access fees.

Applicants should state clearly in no fewer than 300 and more than 500 words:

  1. the nature of the proposed project;
  2. the contribution the project will make to anthropological understanding;
  3. the practical arrangements which have been made;
  4. the purpose to which the grant will be put;
  5. a breakdown of the estimated total costs of the project.

A statement of support from the applicant's supervisor should accompany an application.

Candidates must confirm that they have applied for ethical approval of the research project. They should notify the Trust by emailing Prof. Roy Dilley (rmd@st-andrews.ac.uk) as soon as approval has been granted. Funding is conditional on ethics clearance being given.

Applications should be emailed to pgpafs@st-andrews.ac.uk by March 14, 2025, noon. Successful applicants will be expected to submit a short report by the submission date of their MRes dissertation in August 2024, detailing how the grant was used.
