University of Bonn collaborative research grant

The University has launched a fifth call of the Collaborative Research Grant programme with the University of Bonn.

Purpose

The Collaborative Research Grants programme fosters international research broadly. Applicants from all Schools and disciplines are encouraged to submit funding applications for innovative and sustainable projects built around collaborative research linking staff at the University of St Andrews and the University of Bonn. The research may take place in any country or regions as long as it is done collaboratively.

The expectation is that these initial projects will lead to longer-term collaborations, institutional and research relations, and when applicable, generate publications, exhibitions, or external funding. Applications that include students and/or collaborations across schools, disciplines, and units are encouraged.

Funding

In 2025, the Collaborative Research Grants programme will fund two applications.

The selected application will receive up to £20,000 GBP (approx. €23,000 EUR) in total or £10,000 GBP (approx. €11,500 EUR) from each institution. These funds must be used for research (broadly defined) and must follow the guidelines below.

Eligibility

Full-time or part-time academic staff at the University of St Andrews with a contract of employment until at least the end of the collaborative research project are eligible to apply.

Applications will be assessed on the basis of:

  • academic quality and innovation
  • impact and legacy
  • research outcomes
  • partnership and strategic relevance

Applications for projects that align with the following St Andrews’ interdisciplinary research priorities are welcome:

  • peace, conflict and security
  • cultural understanding
  • evolution, behaviour and environment
  • materials for the modern world
  • health, infectious disease and well-being
  • sustainability.

Projects that align with the following Bonn transdisciplinary research areas are also welcome:

  • building blocks of matter and fundamental interactions
  • individuals, institutions and societies
  • innovation and technology for sustainable futures
  • life and health
  • mathematics, modelling and simulation of complex systems
  • past worlds and modern questions - cultures across time and space.
