Review outcomes
This page summarises the possible outcomes following REC review of an NHS ethics application. These outcomes, and related timescales, are described in full in Section 3 of the REC Standard Operating Procedures.
It is common to receive a provisional opinion with a request for further information or a favourable opinion with conditions rather than to receive a favourable or unfavourable opinion outright, in the first instance.
Provisional opinions are not given for proportionate reviews – you will either receive a final opinion or ‘no opinion’ which means that your application will undergo full review.
