Institutional Research Equality and Diversity Review Group

The Institutional Research Equality and Diversity Review Group considers and makes recommendations on research decisions or processes that may have equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) implications for staff.

The group is chaired by the Vice-Principal (People and Diversity).

The group will consider and provide advice to the Research Excellence Board and to the Principal's Office on EDI implications related to research management and assessment.

- Research Excellence Framework
  - Review development of the University’s Code of Practice for REF and provide feedback and recommendations to REB and PO
  - Act as a decision-making group for EDI-related internal processes and communications around the Research Excellence Framework (REF)
    - staff circumstances/unit circumstances
    - research independence
    - EDI training for REF decision makers
    - and additional EDI aligned processes for REF as required.
  - Provide assurance that the appeal processes for decisions on the above areas are clear and independent from the REB
  - Monitor the progress from the institutional Equality Impact Assessment for REF 2021 action plan
- Peer Review/Demand Management
  - Review EDI reports (provided by RIS) on the composition and operation of the Peer Review College and review panels and make recommendations to REB and PO on any action or changes required
