Research committees and forums

There are a number of research committees and forums which influence University policy and practice and ensure research standards are being met, with a view to improve the research experience at St Andrews.

Research, Impact and Innovation Committee

The Research, Impact and Innovation Committee informs, influences and facilitates the University-wide oversight and coordination of the activities related to facilitating excellent research, impact and innovation and a thriving research environment.

Research Excellence Board

The Research Excellence Board supports Schools to nurture and progress their research excellence on an ongoing basis.

Institutional Research Equality and Diversity Review Group

The Institutional Research Equality and Diversity Review Group considers and makes recommendations on research decisions or processes that may have equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) implications for staff.

Animal Welfare and Ethics Committee (AWERB)

AWERB is responsible for promoting a culture of care. Its remit includes promoting welfare, ensuring training and appropriate ethical review of all teaching and research activities involving animals, tissues and data.

University Teaching and Research Ethics Committee (UTREC)

UTREC is responsible for the ethical review and approval of all teaching and research activities involving human participants or human tissues and samples.

School ethics committees

Each School has its own ethics committee which is overseen by the University Teaching and Research Ethics Committee (UTREC)

Research Staff Forum

The Research Staff Forum explores key local, national and international issues relating to research and teaching staff.
