Course information

This workshop provides an essential introduction to assessment at the University of St Andrews.  The workshop will discuss the University’s 20-point marking scale, institutional policies on assessment and the importance of marking criteria.  It will also provide guidance on aligning assessments with Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs)  and offer participants an opportunity to reflect on key considerations when design and marking robust, fair and inclusive assessments.  This workshop links closely with the ‘Effective feedback on student assessments at the University of St Andrews’ workshop and colleagues are encouraged to attend both in close proximity where possible.

What participants have said about a previous version of this course:

  • This was a very helpful event with lots of useful information and helpful activities.
  • This chimes with my beliefs about assessment, but I'd assumed essays were expected at St Andrews as they are by far the dominant form of assessment in my department. It was good to find out that variety is encouraged.
