After matriculation - Part-time

• Change your module choices

  You cannot change your module choices without having this approved by an adviser of studies. Changes must be approved by 1pm on Monday of Week 2 of each semester.

  Do not start attending a module you have not been advised into without first agreeing this with your adviser of studies.

  Your adviser's contact details can be found in MySaint on the 'My courses' tab, under Academic Advising.

• Request a credit transfer (recognition of prior learning)

  The Lifelong Learning team (lifelonglearning@st-andrews.ac.uk) should be your first point of contact for requesting a credit transfer for study completed at other institutions. This is usually discussed at the application stage.

  Decisions on credit transfer requests are made by the recognition of prior learning officer in Admissions. If you made your request at the application stage, a decision will normally be made in October for Semester 1 entrants or in February for Semester 2 entrants.

• Apply to become a full-time student

  If you wish to be considered for full-time study, you must apply through UCAS. The UCAS application deadline is 15 January in the year that you wish to enter the full-time course. All applications are considered carefully by an Admissions officer.

  The Lifelong Learning team (lifelonglearning@st-andrews.ac.uk) can give general advice about becoming a full-time student as well as advice about future module choices.

  There are academic, administrative and financial considerations involved in a decision to become a full-time student, so it is best to start at an early stage in the academic year if you are considering this.

• Withdraw from your course, either temporarily or permanently

  If you want to withdraw or take a leave of absence from your studies, you should contact the registry officer (student support). 

  The Lifelong Learning team (lifelonglearning@st-andrews.ac.uk) can give advice and discuss your options with you.

• Update your details (name and address)

  On a regular basis, you must check and update your personal details online via MySaint.

  If you have officially changed your name, we will need to see the documentation supporting this before we can update our records. You should send us this documentation (for example, a deed poll, updated passport or driver's licence) using the Ask a question service (choose 'Submit a question') or take the documentation to the Advice and Support Centre along with your matriculation (ID) card.

• Missing classes or examinations

  Attendance is a basic requirement for the award of credit, and failure to attend classes or examinations may result in you losing the right to be assessed in that module. Please ensure you are familiar with the Academic Alerts (PDF) regulations. 

  If you have missed classes or examinations, you must submit a self-certificate of absence as soon as possible through MySaint. Absences will be monitored in accordance with the regulations on Academic Alerts (PDF), and students may be referred to Student Services. 

  If your absence causes you to be unable to successfully complete the compulsory elements of the module, or a deferred assessment is required, you may need to provide verifiable documentary evidence. The School will let you know when further evidence is required.

  Absences from examinations

  Absences from examinations should be reported in a self-certificate of absence (via MySaint) as soon as you know you will be absent. You should get in touch with the appropriate School to discuss deferring your examination. The School will let you know when further evidence is required in addition to the self-certificate. 

• Financial advice

  Expert help and confidential advice are available from the Advice and Support Centre. Issues covered include:

  • pre-entry guidance on what your income and expenditure will be
  • student funding (for example, entitlements to loan and grants, applying to trust funds, entitlement to benefits, maximising your income)
  • managing your money
  • banking facilities
  • debt problems
  • council tax problems.
