Montfort Bursaries
Owing to a generous donation from the Montfort family, the Music Centre is able to offer six outstanding musicians (both instrumentalists and singers) weekly hour-long one-on-one lessons each year. Lessons are with distinguished Associate Teachers from the Laidlaw Music Centre, the University's award-winning facility for music of all styles and genres. As some of the most outstanding student performers in the University, recipients will usually also occupy principal roles or positions in auditioned chamber ensembles, St Andrews Chamber Orchestra, Byre Opera and/or St Salvator's Chapel Choir. They will also benefit from regular opportunities to work with the Music Centre's team of Honorary Professors and other internationally renowned visiting performers. Recipients will also be able to apply for funding to attend summer schools, masterclasses or other courses and events that will enhance their musical development up to a value of £1500 over the duration of their degree.
Application process
We welcome any student who wishes to be considered for a Montfort Bursary, whether they have made an application to study at the University or not, to send us a video and CV for brief written feedback. Videos should be between 5-10 minutes (they could be shorter or longer also) and can be accompanied or unaccompanied. Select music that will show you at your best: something that shows your musical intentions in a variety of tempos would be ideal. Demonstrating musicianship and confidence is more important than technical proficiency for its own sake. Please submit videos and CVs here. Awards of a Montfort Bursary can only be made to students when they are in receipt of an offer to study at the University and after a live audition online or in person. Award recipients can be studying any undergraduate programme and be from anywhere in the world.
