Terms and conditions for Music Centre scholarships and bursaries

Congratulations on being awarded a scholarship or a bursary. This document outlines the conditions of your award:

  • All recipients of a scholarship or award are expected to fully engage with the opportunity. Attendance at all lessons, rehearsals, services (Chapel Choirs only) and concerts is expected.
  • All recipients of a scholarship or bursary are required to become a member of the Music Centre (as does everyone who uses Music Centre facilities). This involves paying a membership fee. We reserve the right to remove the award made to any student who does not pay the appropriate membership fee.
  • The duration of your lesson depends on your award, as does the nature of any weekly ensemble coaching. If you are unsure what your award entitles you to, please ask us for clarification.
  • We expect you to respond promptly to all communications relevant to your scholarship award, including scheduling lesson times, rehearsals, concerts and events.
  • You are obliged to advise us immediately if you are running late for any engagement, are unwell or have unexpected clashes. Should circumstances mean you cannot fulfil the obligations of your award, you must inform us immediately.
  • Although we are usually able to offer the lessons, coaching or activities intimated, there are occasional rare circumstances that hinder us from doing so. Should an award be only partially fulfilled, no recompense of the full value will be offered.
  • We expect you to make the most of the award and any extra opportunities when they arise. We are very experienced at helping students juggle academic commitments. If you have any concerns about your workload, please talk to us. We are aware that certain times of the year are busy, so we try as far as possible to schedule opportunities and activities to avoid clashes and excessive short-term workloads.
  • If you are taking a practical music module, your award will be primarily used to help you prepare for the assessment requirements of that module. If you are worried about the balance between the demands of your music module and extracurricular music commitments, you should talk to your teacher or a member of Music Centre staff.

Agreed and approved as of June 2024.
