Children and young people
We are pleased to offer a range of opportunities for children and young people at the Laidlaw Music Centre.
Instrumental and vocal lessons with our inspiring and accredited teachers are available to beginners as well as continuing students. Our 30-minute 1:1 lessons take place in the bright and welcoming Laidlaw Music Centre. Lessons take place during the University's semesters, and many teachers also teach until the end of the school summer term.
StAMP Choir introduces young children to the joys of singing in a group with others. The group sings a variety of songs from different musical styles and cultures and all members will develop their vocal technique and learn how to work and perform with others in annual concerts. No previous experience of singing is necessary. For primary-aged pupils P3 – P7. Tuesdays 5-5.45pm. The choir is led by Claire Innes-Hopkins.
StAMP Youth Orchestra is a flexible ensemble that develops the musical skills required to play music in a group. Whilst learning to play a range of musical styles, participants will explore, learn and perform pieces according to the instruments/personnel of the group at any one time. For instrumentalists aged 10+ who have been playing for at least a year and can read music, or who are approximately Grade 2 standard (if you take grades). The orchestra is conducted by Joanna Petrie.
