Research opportunities
The School of Modern Languages is committed to facilitating language- and period-specific research alongside interdisciplinary transnational projects. The School's size and intercultural expertise make it well placed to do both.
There are currently over 40 research active staff and over 30 PhD students from all over the world undertaking research in Modern Languages at St Andrews.
The School welcomes expressions of interest from postdoctoral researchers in Arabic, Chinese, Comparative Literature, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Persian and Russian through the various Postdoctoral fellowship schemes.
Postdoctoral Research Assistantship posts are advertised in the University’s Current job opportunities pages
The School also welcomes creative practitioners to join us through the Writers and Translators in residence scheme.
Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunities
The School of Modern Languages is keen to support applications from outstanding individuals for independent fellowships.
If you are interested in any of these schemes, please contact the Director of Research by emailing langsdor@st-andrews.ac.uk
For some fellowship schemes, there is an internal selection process within the School and the University. Further information is posted on the School News page.
When the School assesses your application for support, the following is considered:
- Your research track record including publications
- The quality of your research proposal
- The fit with the requirements of the particular fellowship scheme
- The fit with the research environment in the School.
