IMLR grant success for Derek Duncan, Ramsey McGlazer, and Tom Smith

9 April 2020

The School wishes to congratulate Professor Derek Duncan and Dr Ramsey McGlazer, who have received funding of £1900 from the Institute of Modern Languages Research to host one of their three regional conferences in St Andrews in 2020-21. The conference is called ‘Queer Epistemicides’, and the aim is to place work in Modern Languages at the centre of queer theory in the year of its 30th anniversary.

Also congratulations go to Dr Tom Smith, who has been awarded £2000 from the same fund for his conference Words, Music and Marginalisation. This conference will explore how individuals are marginalised within musical cultures, and how people use music to resist marginalisation. Confrence organisers hope to increase the profile of Modern Languages within musical studies, and to provide a forum for postgraduate researchers and early career researchers in the field by collaborating with the Word and Music Association Forum. The event will take place online from 1-3 September.

The scheme is very competitive, and getting two out of its three annual awards is an extraordinary achievement.
