Anette Lee Wins Student Energy Savings Competition

10 April 2025

School of Modern Languages student sustainability representative Anette Lee has won an energy saving competition run by the University of St Andrews' Environment Team.

Tasked with designing a campaign to encourage responsible energy use, MA French and Philosophy student Anette created a campaign focused around a lion mascot. The campaign promoted simple but effective measures - such as turning off lights when leaving rooms - that reduce energy waste, helping the environment and reducing costs.

The lion's "roar of responsibility" was heard around the School of Modern Languages' Buchanan Building as a suitably costumed campaign member visited classes and chatted to students about small changes they could make to reduce energy waste. Anette also developed posters incorporating the lion mascot with further energy saving tips.

The Environment Team praised the campaign for its creativity and engaging nature.

Congratulations to Anette from everyone at the School of Modern Languages.
