School of Modern Languages top in new university rankings

The University of St Andrews is Scotland’s top university and one of the top four universities in the UK, according to a new league table published on 17 May 2024.

The Complete University Guide 2025 ranks St Andrews as the top university in Scotland, and fourth in the UK, in the annual assessment of universities’ teaching and research strengths.

Six of the languages taught at the School of Modern Languages were listed in top 5 in the rankings:

• Arabic and Persian - 3rd place (under African and Middle Eastern Studies)
• French - 3rd place
• German - 3rd place
• Russian - 4th place
• Spanish - 4th place (under Iberian Languages)
