Number one in the UK for Spanish in Times Guide

The School of Modern Languages has been ranked number one in the UK for Spanish in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023.

The Guide also ranked the University as top in Scotland and 2nd in the UK, as well as naming St Andrews as the Scottish University of the Year.

Last year St Andrews was ranked number one in the UK, the first time in the near 30-year history of the Guide, or any UK ranking, that any university has been placed above those of Oxford and Cambridge.

Principal and Vice-Chancellor Dame Sally Mapstone FRSE said: “This is another very welcome endorsement of the quality of research-led teaching at St Andrews, and the hard work of all our staff and students, but they would be the first to say that this is not the week for celebration.

“We will in due course be marking this achievement with all in our community.”

The Guide provides the definitive rankings for UK universities and the most comprehensive overview of higher education in Britain.

It includes profiles on 135 universities and the definitive UK university rankings, making use of the latest data published in the past two months. A fully searchable website with university profiles and 70 subject tables is available online  for subscribers to The Times and The Sunday Times.
