Public Engagement

For the past nine years, the School has contributed to the Summer Academic Experience programme for 16 to 18-year-old high-school students. Each summer, the School typically gives 5 to 6 lectures and accompanying tutorials as part of the programme.

The School contributed this year by giving six lectures during the summer 2024 - these are coordinated by Professor Lars Olsen

Applications for the SAEC 2025 will reopen Monday 4 November 2024.

For over 20 years, the University has organised a Summer School in association with the educational charity, the Sutton Trust. Visiting high school students from all over the UK attend lectures and other events in various subjects. The School's activities are coordinated by Professor Lars Olsen.

The Scottish Mathematical Challenge, organised for schools by the Scottish Mathematical Council, is a problem-solving competition for individual pupils in Scottish secondary schools and upper primary schools (mainly P7). Jean Reinaud currently organises the secondary competition for east and central Scotland.

2025 will see the 50th Anniversary of the Scottish Mathematical Challenge!

Twenty 15 to 16-year-old students visited the School and attended workshops run by Jonathan Fraser and Stuart Burrell.

First Chances Fife is a programme that aims to raise the aspirations and achievements of pupils as they progress through their education.

Workshops and lectures were advertised to local schools. Lectures were delivered by Louis Theran, Lars Olsen and Jonathan Fraser.
