Solar theory professor wins prestigious European prize

Emeritus Gregory Professor Eric Priest, who for many years led the world-renowned Solar Theory Group in the School of Mathematics and Statistics, has been awarded the prestigious triennial Senior Prize of the European Solar Physics Division of the European Physical Society. The award is for 'long-standing leadership via mentoring, supervising and field-defining textbooks and for fundamental contributions in key topics of solar magnetohydrodynamics, particularly magnetic reconnection in the solar atmosphere and solar coronal heating'.
