Health and safety

The University takes health and safety seriously and aims to provide a safe and comfortable work and study environment for staff and students.

Key contacts

Who to contact

Each School in the University has an appointed Safety Coordinator who is the first point of contact for queries relating to health and safety.

Accident Reporting

If you trip, slip, fall, hurt yourself or have a near miss when at the Gateway, this needs to be reported to and logged by the Safety Coordinator.

Please seek assistance first, if needed.

Then ensure the relevant information is passed on as soon as possible. This will allow appropriate follow-up investigations to be done and preventative measures to be put in place where applicable.

First Aiders

There are a number of first aid trained staff in the Gateway Building.

Information about location of first aid trained staff in the building is displayed on notices throughout the building. In the event that there are no first aid trained staff available to assist, please telephone the Security and Response team on 01334 46 8999 or 9-999 for emergency assistance.

First Aid supplies

First aid boxes are available throughout the building, including one in the Office on the ground floor of the building.

Defibrillator

A defibrillator is located on the external wall to the right-hand side of the main revolving entrance door to the Gateway. Please use this if an emergency presents itself. The equipment will talk you through the process. You do not need training to use the defibrillator and you may save a life in an emergency.
