Podcast success for Professor’s book

Critical Theory link logoProfessor Philip Roscoe recently talked to Dave O'Brien, Professor of Cultural and Creative Industries at the University of Sheffield, in a podcast for the 'New Books in Critical Theory' network. The interview discussed Philip's recent book, How to build a stock exchange, in a conversation that ranged from the history of London's stock exchanges to broader questions about the role of finance in society. The podcast, published on 7 August 2023, is available from the New Books network website, which describes Philip's book as 'essential reading across the social sciences and humanities'.

The book has been drawing attention online since its publication earlier this year. In June, Philip appeared in an online book salon, New debates in the sociology and political economy of finance, hosted by Harvard Law School. He spoke alongside Professor Donald MacKenzie of the University of Edinburgh and Dr Leon Wansleben of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies on the topic of the visibility and invisibility of finance.

In May, Philip appeared in IPO-VID, a US-based practitioner-focused podcast hosted by finance commentator Patrick L Young, himself a veteran of stock exchange startups worldwide. The interview is available on YouTube. Finally, the book was the focus of in a podcast interview on Bristol University Press' Transforming Society series, in March 2023.
