Student in post-COP26 panel discussion
On Wednesday 20 April 2022, second year Management and Sustainable Development student Elena Chen will be a panelist in the University-wide online event, Halfway between Glasgow and Sharm El-Sheik: A post-COP26 discussion.
As a member of the panel of St Andrews staff and students who attended COP26, she will talk about her experiences at Glasgow and her thoughts about building momemtum toward COP27 in Sharm El-Sheik, and will answer questions. The discussion will be moderated by Stephen Gethins, from the Principal's Office and School of International Relations.
At COP26, Elena was a delegate representing the China Youth Climate Action Network, and she volunteered for the China Corporate Pavilion. She reports:
"In Glasgow, I was in charge of hosting the interview with social innovator and entrepreneur Michael Norton OBE.
I also participated in the Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC) and the Global Youth Zero Carbon Future Summit.
In 2022, the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, which is an ally of the GAUC, will take the lead in hosting the next Global Youth Zero Carbon Future Summit, following the success of its wonderful event during COP26.
I am anticipating seeing more universities act on climate change, because as a source of education, the power of students is unlimited."
