About

The International Education and Lifelong Learning Institute (IELLI) was created in 2024 by the merger of two existing institutes - The International Education Institute (IE) and the Centre for Educational Enhancement and Development (CEED).

IELLI provides multiple strands of teaching, professional development, skills support and co-curricular provision. We offer:

  • Pathway programmes (International Foundation programmes) for international students with high school qualifications that are not eligible for undergraduate degree entry.
  • Postgraduate programmes in Academic Practice, International Education and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
  • Pre-sessional courses and transitional support to assist students with their studies, and to provide English language assistance for those who require it.
  • Short courses, including bespoke tailored courses for organisations with specific needs.
  • Skills training for existing staff and students, such as our Learning and Writing Centre, U-Skills, M-Skills and GradSkills workshops, coaching, mathematics and statistics training,
  • Training and support for staff and students in using technology to enhance learning across the institution.
  • Modules and activities to aid students in developing entrepreneurial skills.

Our remit supports the University strategy and our initiatives feed into the People and Digital enabling strategies. IELLI’s work has particular alignment to the Education supporting strategy which sets out our aim of providing world-leading teaching and learning. Our work also supports the development of graduate attributes.
