Library support for disabled students

The Library works with the University's Disability team to offer additional support and services.

To discuss your needs, you can email disability@st-andrews.ac.uk, or email library@st-andrews.ac.uk to get more details on library facilities.

Getting books and material

Where possible, the Library can adapt its services. Options include:

  • Delivering Library items to your University's hall of residence.
  • Sending material to you by post, to an address in the United Kingdom. There may be a charge of £6.70 to cover postage costs.
  • Requesting permission to allow a friend or nominated person to borrow items for you.
  • Leaving books or other material ready for you to collect.
  • Extending a borrowing period.

Main Library

The Main Library has:

  • An induction loop on the Service Desk.
  • An assistive technology room. Email disability@st-andrews.ac.uk to request access.
  • Accessible toilets on all floors.
  • Height-adjustable desks.

Martyrs Kirk Research Library

There is limited access to this building. The Thomson Reading Room is open to postgraduate students and staff only.

Wheelchair access and lifts

There is wheelchair access at:

  • The Main Library
  • St Mary's College Library West Room
  • JF Allen Library

Lifts are available in:

  • The Main Library
  • JF Allen Library
