SafePod

A SafePod is a secure space designed to give accredited researchers access to sensitive datasets.

Security features include CCTV, controlled access, and secure storage for IT equipment. They are also wheelchair accessible and have height-adjustable desks.

SafePods are available at universities across the UK and allow researchers to access datasets from multiple data centres, removing the need to travel.

Where to find the University of St Andrews SafePod

The SafePod at Walter Bower House, at the Eden Campus.

The University's SafePod is on Level 1 of Walter Bower House at the Eden Campus. There is lift access. 

The SafePod is open for use from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. 

How to book the SafePod

To book and use the SafePod you need to:

  • Make sure you are an approved researcher with an approved project at a data centre that is part of the SafePod Network (SPN).
  • Register with the SPN by completing a short questionnaire about user policies.
  • Once your registration is complete, make a booking request for the University of St Andrews SafePod from the SPN website. Your request will be sent to the relevant data centre for approval. 
  • On the day of the your booking, go to the reception area at Walter Bower House with valid ID on the day of your booking, and follow the instructions from your booking confirmation.
