Microsoft Office Training Workbooks
A wide range of workbooks, suitable for self-directed study, are available for these Microsoft Office 2016 (Windows) applications:

Note: These training materials are licensed to the University of St Andrews and thus access is restricted to University of St Andrews staff and student users only (University login required).
For each application in the Workbook Catalogue below, there is a package of resources available to view and/or download, shared through OneDrive. Most applications are sub-divided into graduated levels of topics for progressive learning. The descriptions below give an overview of the contents; see the course outline in each folder for a full topic list.
Each level folder contains:
- a outline of course content topics
- a PDF workbook containing the topic sheets and exercises
- a zipped archive of working files to accompany the exercises (for download only)
Workbook Catalogue
Find below the basic topic content for each course. To access the training materials, click the application listing link; you will be required to login to your University O365 account. The resource folder will load, either displaying the package resources or the further level folders. You can then view or download the resources as required.
- Level 1-Beginner’s introduction to creating documents, basic manipulation of text, tables, and objects.
- Level 2-Covers more specific documentation creation aspects such as working with multiple documents, formatting tables, tabs, lists, merging, section breaks, templates and more.
- Level 3- Create and work with features such as SmartArt, indexes, referencing tools, master documents, interactive fields, electronic forms, macros and more.
- Level 1- Introduces the basics of creating and working with spreadsheets, entering data, spreadsheet layout, sorting, filtering and printing.
- Level 2- Covers formulas and function techniques, advanced formatting and charting features and data manipulation tools such as goal seeking.
- Level 3-Covers how to protect worksheet data, perform advanced data operations using summarising, data consolidations, advanced filters and PivotTables, using macros, data validation.
- Functions-Covers a variety of Excel functions, including logical, look-up, math, date and time, text and financial functions.
- Data Analysis-covers data analysis add-ins including using Power View, Power Pivot, Get & Transform and Power Map.
- Introduces using Visual Basic programming (VBA) to program and automate document operations.
- Introduces using Visual Basic programming (VBA) to program and automate worksheet operations.
- Level 1-the basics of a presentation using text and shapes, layouts, SmartArt and printing.
- Level 2-Covers extending presentations using master slides, themes, animations, image enhancements, slide show options
- Level 1-Introduces how to send and receive emails, schedule appointments and maintain contact details.
- Level 2-Covers how to manage and organise your e-mail, schedule meetings, manage your contact information and create task requests.
- Level 1-Introduces the basics of database systems, enter, edit and delete data in database files, produce information in forms and reports and generate basic queries on the data.
- Level 2-Covers data validation, how to create more sophisticated and complex queries, and is introduced to some basic automation techniques involving macros.
- Level 3-Covers elements to design and create a multi-table database and automate operations using macros and have a general understanding of the programming environment in Microsoft Access.
- Introduces notebook structure, adding and maintaining content, using tags, searching, page formatting, printing and security features.
- Introduces the features of this desktop publishing application with the emphasis on layout and design.
- Covers topics to create diagrams and drawings using the many shapes, stencils and templates.
- Level 1-Covers how to create a new project, enter and work with tasks and resources, create a schedule, and print effective project information.
- Level 2-Covers assigning and tracking costs, applying constraints, project views, tracking progress and more.
- Level 3-Covers a diverse range of topics including working simultaneously on multiple projects, sharing resources between several projects, downsizing very large projects, using templates, and automating operations with VBA.
