Richard Newell was an English officer. He served in the seizure of Brill and Grave in 1572 and then as a corporal and sergeant under Sir John Norreys. He served under one Captain Rogers in the garrison of Sluis in 1581 and then under Captain Smith around 1586. He served under Captain Henry Warde [SSNE 8463] in the Portugal expedition in 1589 and then again under Norreys in Brittany around 1590 to 1592.
