ROBESON, THOMAS [SSNE 8404]
Text source
Thomas Robeson was a Scottish captain in Dutch service in the 1570s. He was commissioned by the Privy Council of Scotland on 6 June 1573 to raise 300 men for the Prince of Orange. He appeared in the pay-lists of Holland for 1573-1574. In early 1574, Robeson was present in the fighting around Middelburg, and was reported by Roger Williams to have had played an instrumental part in the defeat of the Spanish royal navy in late January. On 18 July 1574 it was reported that “Captain Robeson and Adamson’s companies are defeated in Holland,” but he appears in the pay-lists of Holland from 1575 to 1577 so he probably survived this defeat.
