Justinus van Assche was born in Emden and was orphaned in 1611. He moved to Zierikzee by 1614 and studied between 1614 and 1615 at the high school of Franeker. His uncle and guardian became bankrupt shortly after and requested Philips Willem Arondeaux (who sat on the Council of Veere) to intercede on behalf of his ward to continue as a student. Subsequently, van Assche went to Scotland and studied at the University of St Andrews from 11 September 1617 to Summer 1618. He moved to Caen and then to the University of Saumur and served as interim Latin rector for a couple of years. By 1625 he was a medical doctor in Amsterdam, having probably obtained a medical degree in France. After the death of Veere's preacher, van Assche applied for the vacancy but this was declined on the grounds that he would not sign the catechism and classis. His career becomes obscure after this though there is evidence he lived in Middelburg around 1644.
