Text source
Jane Watkins was the wife of Evan Watkins, who served as the sergeant-major of Colonel Sir Thomas Morton's regiment in the expedition to the Ile de Rhé (1627), until he was killed on 29 October 1627. In 1629, Jane Watkins petitioned the Privy Council of England for his arrears of pay (£103, 11 shillings, eight pence) which Sergeant-Major Watkins had willed to her and their two children. The Privy Council ruled in favor of Mrs Watkins, and also noted that she was "a stranger, [who] hath been long a suitor [to the council] and hath no other occasion to stay here but onely to receive that money," implying that she was to return to the Dutch Republic upon payment of the arrears.
