ADDEROSS, MAGDALLEN [SSNE 8276]
Text source
Magdallen Addeross was a Dutch woman whose husband, unnamed, was a soldier in the Scots-Dutch Brigade during the Scottish Highland War (1689-1692). After her husband’s death at the battle of Killiecrankie, 27th July 1689, she was part of a group of five Dutch widows (Cathrine Laflour [SSNE 8272], Issobell Greenlands [SSNE 8273], Catherine Stivensone [SSNE 8274] and Mary Walker [SSNE 8275]) who petitioned the Scottish Privy Council for charitable funds. On 24th August 1689, it was ordered that the widows were to be paid £6 Sterling in total from the Treasury to be divided equally amongst them which was to facilitate their return to the Dutch Republic.
