Text source
Gavin Hamilton was an officer in the Scots-Dutch Brigade. He was commissioned as captain in Colonel Balfour's regiment on 21 September 1683 but, along with 60 other officers, resigned in 1688 when James VII tried to recall the Brigade. He was commissioned as a captain in Colonel John Wauchope's regiment of foot, and according to Charles Dalton, he "adhered to James VII at and after the Revolution."
