Captain Giles Gainsford was an officer in Thomas Morgan's and later Chester's regiment in the Anglo-Dutch Brigade. He appears in the pay lists of Holland for 1573 (Ferguson, p. 36). He fought at Leiden in 1574 and served as a captain of various companies until 1582 (Trim, p. 429).
