Text source
Matthew Coote was a relative of the English merchant, John Coote [SSNE 7782]. He was used as a courier for Sir James Spens or Wormiston [SSNE 1642] while the latter was on a mission from Sweden to London in 1619. In a letter from Spens to Axel Oxenstierna (which Coote carried to Sweden), Spens asks Oxenstierna to extend kindness to Matthew Coote who was acting on behalf of John Coote's wife as the latter was believed to be dead.
