SINCLAIR, LAURENCE [SSNE 8047]
Text source
Laurence Sinclair was an officer in Colonel Buccleuch’s [SSNE 5010] regiment of the Scots-Dutch brigade. On 17 July 1604 he was recommended by Noel de Caron on behalf of James VI to succeed Captain John More when More was killed at Ostend. Sinclair, More’s lieutenant, had been in Ostend for thirty weeks and had been wounded several times in the action there. He was evidently also a “nobleman of ability” from a “great house” which further recommended him to the position. Sinclair was dead within months, and was succeeded by Michael Otmarson on 8 October 1604.
