Sir Andrew Balfour of Montquhanny was one of the original captains of Colonel Buccleuch’s [SSNE 5010] regiment in the Scots-Dutch brigade. He was the eldest son of Sir Michael Balfour of Montquhanny and M. Adamson and married Margaret Melville. He took oath on 17 April 1604 and commanded 200 men with a salary of £2489. It is possible that this number was in fact down to 134 men. He was succeeded by William Douglas on 16 January 1606.
