MANDERS, ROBERT [SSNE 7977]
Text source
Robert Manders was a Scottish sailor serving in the Dutch WIC in 1623. He was constabelsmaat to skipper Arien Claesz. He named one Maycken Pietersdr, daughter of Captain Pieter Corsten Hort of Nieuwe Haven his heir. Evidently, Robert and Maycken were lovers, and bound to each other by a pledge of faith. Thus, her inheritance of his estate was on the condition that she remain faithful to him during his travels. His goods in Scotland he left to his sister, Margaret Andersen.
