Text source
John Rannel was a sailor in the Dutch Republic but was killed around 1650 while serving under Admiral De Witt. He had named his brother, Andrew Rannel from "Cuyl" in Scotland, his heir. After his brother's death, Andrew authorized a secretary in the Dutch Admiralty to recover John's outstanding wages and divided them between John's wife and their sister.
