John Lyell was a sailor serving in the Dutch Republic under Captain Jan van Es (the younger) in 1650. He authorized the Rotterdam Admiralty to pay one Pieter Peet (or, Peter Pete, living in Culross) 130 guilders directly from his wages to pay his outstanding debts.
