WANT, WILLIAM [SSNE 7912]
Text source
William Want was a sailor serving under Vice-Admiral Witte de With in 1653, during the First Anglo-Dutch War (1652-1654). In his will, he left his belongings to his brother, John Want, but in the case of John's death, his belongings were to go to his mother, Janneken Thomasdr. Because he signed his will on 15 April 1653, it is quite possible that he fought with de With at the battle of Gabbard Shoal in early June of that year.
