HOUSE, JOHN [SSNE 7812]
Text source
John House was an English trumpeter who served at the Vasa court of Duke Karl (later Karl IX of Sweden) at Nykoping between 1591-2. He was part of a band of musicians hired by the Duke for his impending nuptials to Princess Christine of Holstein. In 1591 House received 8 daler and 3 marks for his services. House and two other English musicians travelled to Hegnetorp in August 1592 where the Duke was set to meet his new bride. By October that year House had been paid 75 daler and 1 mark, amongst the lower-paid of the English entertainers hired by the Duke. It seems that House returned to England at the end of 1592, bearing a letter from James Hill to Lord Burghley. House delivered the letter to John Coote [SSNE 7782] in London.
